The first Angry Birds game was rolled out on iOS way back in December 2009. Since then, the game evolved into multiple versions, became available for many more platforms, and was downloaded by millions of people around the world. The infographic below shows just how popular Angry Birds is now, five years after its release.

“When we saw the first concept image for Angry Birds back in December 2009, there was a strong feeling that this was an idea that would take flight - but we couldn’t have dreamt of its scale”, said Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio. “In the past five years Angry Birds has grown into one of the most recognized brands in the world, and Rovio has grown into a global entertainment company producing games, books, animations, theme parks and many other products including a feature film due out in July of 2016.”

As I was saying at the start of this article, the first Angry Birds game was rolled out on iOS in December 2009. Since it is now December 2014, it obviously means that Angry Birds is celebrating its 5th birthday.

To mark this joyous occasion, Rovio Entertainment released a new episode entitled Play the Next Level. Meant as a tribute to all the Angry Birds fans in the world, this new episode features 30 new levels created entirely by fans. You see, Rovio and its partners hosted a social media competition and thousands of entries came pouring in. Rovio picked the best ones and used them to create Play the Next Level.

Rovio Entertainment is also celebrating Angry Birds’ 5th anniversary by hosting a party in Finland. More than 2000 local kids will join the party. Every baby born in Finland on December 11, will get a special edition baby Flock outfit from Rovio.
