The tagline associated with Mailbox is “a mobile-first experience for iPhone + Gmail.” They’ll have to update it, because the Mailbox app is now available for Android as well.

The thousands of requests for and Android version have been answered. Mailbox for Android is available for download for free on Google’s Play Store.

Mailbox is a light, fast, user friendly app that was specifically designed to offer a great email reading experience on mobiles. People familiar with the app know that Mailbox provides support for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system. The news is that Mailbox now provides support for a new mobile operating system: Google’s Android. Thousands of people asked for an Android version of Mailbox. And now they have it!

“We are thrilled to introduce Mailbox for Android,” said the Mailbox Team. “We’ve received thousands of requests for an Android app, and after nearly a year of work we’re excited to bring the simplicity of Mailbox to the world’s most popular mobile platform. With Mailbox for Android, we’re one step closer to bringing the joy of putting email in its place to everyone who wants it.”

Mailbox App – Main Features
  • User friendly interface that lets you easily access your email.
  • Gmail and iCloud accounts are supported (more email platforms will be supported in the future).
  • Push notifications for new messages.
  • Chat-like organization for your emails.
  • Tap a button to snooze emails; easily mute a conversation.
  • The app checks your email from the cloud and securely delivers it to your phone.

Alongside Mailbox for Android, the Mailbox team introduced a new feature called Auto-Swipe. This new feature works like this: the app monitors your swipes and snoozes, learns from them, and then uses what it learned to automate common actions. Threads you don’t care about can be automatically muted for example.

“Auto-swipe is something we wanted to release with the first version of Mailbox, but it’s only with recent improvements to our infrastructure that such a smart service has been possible,” said the Mailbox Team.
