Earlier this month popular social networking and microblogging site Twitter announced the launch of a new Tweet Button which is meant to make it easier for users to share links on Twitter. Even though the button is “easy-to-install and lightweight”, not all websites out there implemented it. As Twitter explained, the Tweet Button has been adopted by “thousands of sites” – still, there are some sites that did not implement the button.

So what happens if you visit a webpage, want to share that webpage’s ULR on Twitter and there’s no Tweet Button to click? You could share the link of that webpage the old fashioned way – copy it, shorten the link, then post it on Twitter. Or you can take advantage of the newly released Tweet Button Bookmarklet.

“We’re making available a Tweet Button Bookmarklet that allows you to tweet a link with your own commentary from anywhere on the web. You just need to drag and drop the Bookmarklet into your browser’s bookmark bar. Like the Tweet Button, it shortens links automatically. If there’s a Twitter account listed on the site, it also may suggest users to follow,” explained Carolyn Penner, Twitter Communications.

If you would like to get the Tweet Button Bookmarklet, simply visit this page, then drag the “Share on Twitter” link to your browser’s bookmark bar.

Twitter launched the Tweet Button to make the whole sharing a link experience a lot easier. If you are on a page and would like to include the URL of said page in a tweet, you need only click the Tweet Button. After you click the button, a Tweet box with the shortened link of the page you’re on appears. After you post the tweet, you may see some suggestions for accounts you may want to follow. These suggestions are provided by the site you’re on.

Additional details on the Tweet Button are available here.
