Only a few days ago we were reporting that Skype had extended the coverage of the subscriptions that allow users to call landline and mobile phones. The subscriptions, which allow any Skype user to make calls for as little as €0.89/£0.69/$1.09 per month, now cover more than 170 countries. Furthermore, Skype users can now subscribe to make calls to more than just one country.

“With our brand new subscriptions you can call regular phones in one of more than 170 countries around the world, from as little as €0.89/£0.69/$1.09 per month. With a subscription, you can call landlines or mobiles, and you can pick a number of minutes (from 60 to unlimited) and length of subscription (from 1 to 12 months) to suit you. You’ll also save up to 60% on our normal rates. You can also have a subscription to more than one country at once, which is great for those of you who call Venezuela and Botswana,” commented at the time Skype’s Peter Parkes.

It is the same Peter Parkes that now announced a global WiFi celebration, which is held in honor of the new subscriptions mentioned above. As part of the celebration, Skype will drop the rates to €0.01/£0.01/$0.012 per minute, will offer access to WiFi hotspots via Skype Access for only €0.01/£0.01/$0.012 per minute.

With Skype Access you can pay for the minute for WiFi access. With a single mouse click you can use your Skype Credit and go online to send an email message or make a Skype call. You no longer have to go searching for your credit card and fiddle with login details to access a WiFi network. Skype Access is available in the latest versions of the popular instant messaging and VoIP client: Skype 4.2 for Windows and Skype 2.8 for Mac ..

This is a time limited offer. It will kick off on Saturday, the 15th of May at 00:00GMT. It will draw to a close on Sunday, the 16th of May, at 23:59GMT. Basically you have the whole weekend to connect to a WiFi hotspot for €0.01/£0.01/$0.012 per minute.
