Get ready for some exciting news: Instagram updated its iOS and Android apps and introduced five new photo filters.

This is exciting news because the last time Instagram got new filters was in December 2012. People keeping track of these things will remember that’s when Instagram got the Mayfair and Willow filters.

Instagram, the Facebook-owned and incredibly popular service that lets you share photos and videos, recently updated its app for iOS and its app for Android-powered smartphones. Instagram for iOS version 6.4.0 and Instagram for Android 6.12.0 come with, drum rolls please, five new filters.

The five new filters in question are called Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. I could try and describe these filters using words – but I think images would do a better job. So here are some images that present the five new Instagram filters.

Slumber Instagram Filter

Crema Instagram Filter

Ludwig Instagram Filter

Aden Instagram Filter

Perpetua Instagram Filter

To play with these new filters you must get the latest Instagram app for your mobile. That’s Instagram version 6.4.0 for iOS, available on Apple’s App Store here, and Instagram version 6.12.0 for Android, available on Google Play here.

You will be glad to know that the new filters are presented at the front of your filter tray. You will also be glad to know that Instagram modified the way filters are displayed:
  • The filter icons down at the bottom present a blurred preview.
  • There’s a new “manage” button at the end of the filter tray. Use this button to arrange the filters in the order you want and to hide away the filters you rarely use.
Visit the Instagram Help Center if you need help managing and personalizing your filters.
