Adobe, California-based company that specializes in creating multimedia and creativity software products, has recently announced that it updated its Adobe Reader X for Android app to version 10.0.1 (you can get it from the Android Market right now). The update adds four new languages to the list of languages the Android app already provides support for.

The announcement was made yesterday by Aman Deep Nagpal, Senior Product Manager, Acrobat Solutions.
“Today, we added support for four additional languages for Adobe Reader X for Android: Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Japanese and Korean,” said Aman Deep Nagpal.

Do you have any ideas how many languages Adobe Reader X for Android provides support for now? Aman Deep Nagpal went on to explain that the Android app provides support for a grand total of 17 languages. The 17 languages in question are as follows: English, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, Portuguese, Swedish, Russian, Czech, Polish, and Turkish.

Personally, I like to see companies add support for as many languages as possible. And I find it quite annoying when in movies everyone speaks English. No matter what part of the world someone is from, if you the main character speaks slowly and clearly enough, that someone will understand English – the fact that the person the character encounters may have never had any contact with English doesn’t bear any relevance, he will understand the language. Even the aliens understand and speak English – most of the times.

In the real world and in the software world as well, things are not like that. If someone does not understand English, you must provide support for whatever language that person speaks, otherwise you stand to lose users. So I am glad to see that Adobe Reader X for Android now provides support for 17 languages.
