You can share your location and let others know where you are if you have the latest version of the Yahoo! Messenger app for Android-powered devices.

Earlier this month the Yahoo! Messenger app for Android-powered devices has been updated to version 1.6. The interesting thing is not that the app comes with various performance enhancements. No, the interesting thing is that this latest version lets you share where you are. And more to the point, with Yahoo! Messenger 1.6 for Android you can add your location to a status update.

When you update your status message using Yahoo! Messenger for Android, you can let others know where you are by adding your location. You will see an “Add Location” button in the Status Message view – use that button to add your locations to all status updates.

If you don’t want to add your general location and you want to add a specific place instead, you can always do that. With Yahoo! Messenger 1.6 for Android you can add a park, or a restaurant, or some other specific place to your status updates. You can choose a specific place from Yahoo!’s suggested listings or you can manually enter a place or local business. Once you do so, manually add a location I mean, it will be registered as a new location in Yahoo!’s directory. Other Yahoo! Messenger users will then be able to use that location.

The Yahoo! Messenger app uses GPS, WiFi and mobile networks to determine your location. Once you share a location, all your friends will be able to see where you are – but only if your Android-powered device allows the app to use GPS, WiFi, mobile networks to determine your location.

Yahoo! Messenger 1.6 for Android is available for free on Google Play (which replaced the Android Market).
