Murray Hurps rolled out the first public demonstration of Ad Muncher version 5. The thing I found quite interesting is that Ad Muncher 5 will be a cross-platform application.

You will be able to use Ad Muncher to block annoying ads and popups on a Windows PC, on iOS-powered iPhone, or on an Android-powered smartphone.

I am a big, big fan on Murray Hurps Software’s ad blocking tool Ad Muncher. Just when I was starting to think that the developer gave up on the software, Murray Hurps comes with some amazing news: Ad Muncher 5, after being in development for the past 6 years, is now ready for the limelight. As the developer put it, “it has developed into a powerful, portable, adaptable filtering system, that will probably surprise even the most optimistic of Ad Muncher devotees.” Well, I certainly hope so!

Ad Muncher 5 – Main New Features
  • New Engine – the ad blocking tool comes with a new “Muncher” engine that was designed for portability to different platforms. The engine features three main modules: Platform-specific Muncher Intercept Module, Muncher Engine, Muncher Decision Engine.
  • Platform support – all browsers on Windows-powered PCs will be supported; support for iOS and Android will be offered as well. There will be an iOS browser app that offers a Safari-like interface and an Android app that creates a local proxy.
  • Interface – revamped interface that can be easily adapted to a wide range of purposes and environments.
  • List scanning module – that allows for fast matching of large number of filters.

Ad Muncher has been around for 15 years now. If you’re curious to find out how it all started and what happened over the years, Murray Hurps nicely presents the whole history here.
