Security company AVG Technologies recently announced that it reached an impressive milestone: 200 million active users worldwide. Here’s what AVG’s CEO, Gary Kovacs, had to say about the 200 million users milestone:

“This is a very significant milestone for AVG and one that not many companies ever achieve. Not only have we reached the 200 million user mark, but more than half of these users are mobile customers. This highlights the successful evolution our company has made from a PC heritage to a strong mobile future.”

As As Gary Kovacs pointed out in the quote above, out of the 200 million users, 100 million are mobile users. More than 100 million people downloaded AVG products on their mobiles. Not many developers can say that that their apps have been downloaded more than 100 million times. AVG can!

And it can also say that AVG is now the most downloaded security app for Android. At a special event in Barcelona, AVG CTO Yuval Ben-Itzhak explained how AVG became the most downloaded Android security app.

AVG's impressive milestone of 200 million users includes more than 50 million new customers – that’s people who used an AVG product to join the AVG family within the last 18 months; people who used one or more of AVG’s consumer and business products for mobile and desktop platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows and Apple Mac.

Here’s what AVG CEO Gary Kovacs had to say about the company’s growth for the past 18 months:

“The last 18 months have been the fastest period of growth in the company’s history and we expect this rate to continue going forward. This also gives us an important and growing base of customers in over 200 countries who trust AVG with their digital safety, and to whom we can offer over time our enhanced services to increase the value and protection we provide.”
