After releasing a tool to clean OS X-powered devices, security company AVG Technologies rolled out a tool that properly protects said devices.

Back in November, AVG Technologies rolled out AVG Cleaner for Mac, a very easy to use tool that will get rid of all the unnecessary clutter that weighs down your Apple Mac OS X computer.
This December, AVG Technologies rolled out AVG AntiVirus for Mac, a powerful tool that keeps your Mac free of viruses, spyware, and other malware.

Seems that security company AVG Technologies has taken a liking to Mac OS X. The applications for Apple’s operating system keep on coming.

Last month AVG Technology released AVG Cleaner for Mac, a free tool that finds and removes clutter from MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac Pro devices running Mavericks or a previous version of OS X. With AVG Cleaner for Mac you can ensure your Apple Mac OS X computer always runs at peak performance.

AVG Cleaner for Mac – Main Features
  • Very easy to use: scan your machine to find junk or duplicates, view the results of the scan, click a button to clean your machine.

AVG Technologies is committed to providing protection, performance and privacy for every platform, across all devices. As part of this commitment, the company recently rolled out another application for Mac: AVG AntiVirus for Mac, a powerful security solution that protects against viruses, spyware, and other malware.

“Even Macs can slow down over time simply because of duplicate files, cached data and temporary files clogging up the computer drive. This has a negative impact on the experience of using a Mac. We also know that once an operating system reaches a minimum of 10 percent market share as Apple did in North America in 2012, developing viruses and spyware becomes a lucrative investment for cybercriminals,” said David Ferguson, General Manager Consumer & Mobile, AVG Technologies. “Providing security and maintenance apps for the Mac demonstrates our commitment to delivering protection, performance and privacy on every platform, across all devices and for every one of our customers.”

AVG AntiVirus for Mac – Main Features
  • Triple malware protection: the application scans for and uncovers Mac, PC, and mobile-based malware. It properly protects your Mac and ensures you don’t transfer malware to other devices or share malware with others.
  • Drag and drop to scan: drag and drop files or folders onto the application and it will scan then for malware.
  • Automatic updates: updates for the application are pushed to you automatically.
  • Resident Shield: it runs quietly in the background and scans files without draining system resources.

“It’s a popular belief that Mac computers are invincible,” said David Ferguson, General Manager, Consumer & Mobile, AVG Technologies, “But they never were – it’s just been a matter of OS X not reaching the popularity that Windows® historically had. Thanks to the advent of iPhones® and the iPad®, the Mac platform has scaled exponentially, and that fact alone makes it a viable target for attackers. We’ve extended our award-winning AntiVirus product range to cover OS X and Mountain Lion because our customers are our priority and we aim to protect them, whatever device or system they choose to use.”
