Some 1.6 billion people around the world are currently observing Ramadan, the holy month when Muslims fast from sunrise until sunset and refrain from sinful behavior.

In this article, I want to draw attention to 7 Android and iOS apps that will come in handy during Ramadan. Here goes.

1. Muslim Pro – Ramadan 2016 for Android and iOS

With more than 10 million installs, this app is right to proclaim that it is "the most popular Muslim app." When you take a look at the app’s features, it’s easy to see why it is so popular. It uses your location to calculate accurate prayer times, it provides support for visual and audio notifications, it presents a detailed list of fasting times, it can find a mosque near your current location, and much more.

With an in-app purchase, you can upgrade the free Muslim Pro app to the premium version. Among other things, this will get rid of all the ads.

2. Muslim Dua Now for Android and iOS

Install this app on your Android or iPhone and you will have easy access to a large collection of duas (prayers of supplication). The duas are grouped into categories, such as Family, Blessings, Protection, Fasting, and many more. The duas are presented as text, there’s an accompanying translation, and there’s even a built-in player that can recite the duas.

This app is ad-supported. You can get rid of the ads with an in-app purchase.

3. iPray for Android and iOS

No matter where you are in the world, the iPray app will detect your location and it will tell you when it’s time to pray. There’s even a pre-prayer alert feature that gives you a gentle reminder 10 minutes before prayer time. And there’s a built-in compass that tells you in which direction to pray.

iPray for Android is priced at $0.99 while iPray for iOS is priced at $3.99.

4. Quran Majeed for Android and iOS

It’s not always easy to carry a copy of the Quran with you. And why would you, when you have an app like Quran Majeed? If you want to read from the Quran, just open the Quran Majeed app. It features the entire text as well as multiple audio recitations and translations.

The Quran Majeed will also tell you when it’s time to pray. And it has a Qibla compass as well.

5. Ramadan 2016 for Android and iOS

This app tells you when it’s time to pray, has a Qibla compass, features the complete Quran in Arabic and other languages, it can help you find a mosque near your location, and more. You can access all the useful features this app has to offer via a very good looking interface. That may be the best thing about this app – the way it looks.

The app requires Android 3.1 or newer and iOS 7.1 or later.

6. Muslim Directory for Android and iOS

Just like the Ramadan 2016 app mentioned above, Muslim Directory has a good looking interface that you can use to access lots of useful features: accurate prayer times, Qibla compass, mosque finder, restaurant finder, local events, and more.

Muslim Directory lists lots of Muslim businesses. Halal grocery stores and markets, travel agencies, tax services, dental offices, and more.

7. Ramadan Legacy for Android and iOS

"The Ramadan Legacy App gets Muslims excited about their faith, every year individuals look forward to using the app as it truly helps them to achieve their aspirations in Ramadan and continue their spirituality for the rest of the year,” said the app’s founder, Shahbaz Mirza.

The app requires Android 4.1 or newer and iOS 9.0 or later.

Honorable mention – Google’s My Ramadan Companion

A year go, Google announced that it wants to help Muslims celebrate Ramadan and introduced My Ramadan Companion, a web portal that tells you at what time the sun rises and sets, presents various Ramadan recipes and dishes, helps you find and watch Ramadan videos, helps you find the nearest mosque, and so on.
