Thanks to Dropbox, you can safely store data in the cloud, you can keep important files synced across all your devices, and you can easily share files with others. Those are the main three features that Dropbox has to offer and, seeing that Dropbox is close to 9 years old, you’re probably familiar with them.

I don’t want to rehash what you already know about Dropbox, I want to tell you about some interesting stats you may not know about, stats that shed some light on how popular Dropbox has become.

1. Dropbox has 500 million users

Half a billion people from more than 200 countries have signed up to use Dropbox. “With 500 million signups under our belt, it’s exciting to see Dropbox connecting people around the world with everything that’s important to them,” said Dropbox founders Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi.

2. Dropbox is used in 8 million businesses

8 million businesses use Dropbox, for obvious reasons. When you have employees all over the world, Dropbox helps bridge the gap, making it easy to share files and collaborate on various projects.

Did you know that 150,000 businesses are using Dropbox Business, that Dropbox is used in 97% of Fortune 500 companies, or that developers have built more than 300,000 apps on the Dropbox platform?

3. 65% of this year’s Sundance filmmakers used Dropbox

Filmmakers love Dropbox. Proof of this fact is that over 65% of this year's Sundance filmmakers used Dropbox to help make their movies.

“Dropbox is an invaluable resource when needing to look at hundreds of photographs, locations, wardrobe fittings, props, etc., while on location shooting a film or television show,” said Ed Burns, writer/director/actor and winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize.

4. Dropbox users have established 3.3 billion connections

The connections made by Dropbox users sharing data with each other has grown by 51% in the past year, meaning that the number of connections has surpassed the 3.3 billion mark.

As more people join Dropbox, the number of connections keeps on growing. Speaking of which…

5. 44% of new Dropbox users were introduced by a friend

When I first started to use Dropbox, I wanted to let the world know about this tremendously useful tool (also, I wanted to earn some bonus storage space by referring friends). Seems like I’m not the only one, because 44% of new Dropbox accounts were opened by people who heard about Dropbox from a friend.

6. 75% of Dropbox users are not from the US

Dropbox is an American company, headquartered in San Francisco, California. While the company is from the US, most of its customers aren’t. 75% of Dropbox users are from outside the US.

Out of the last 100 million people who signed up for a Dropbox account, the most came from the US – and Germany, India, Brazil and UK.

7. 1.2 billion files are saved on Dropbox every day

The millions of Dropbox users spread across the world manage to upload lots of files to the could – 1.2 billion per day to be more precise.
