Cupertino-based software developer Apple announced that the month of May ended on a very positive note. This is because sales of the iPad have topped the 2 million mark. The iPad was rolled out to awaiting customers on the 3rd of April. The 1 millionth sold iPad milestone was reached only 28 days later, on the 3oth of April.

“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said at the time Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers

On the 31st of May, only 59 days after the device was rolled out, Apple announced that is sold 2 million iPads, twice the amount it managed to sell until the end of April. This means Apple is selling 1 million iPads per month, or an average of 35,000 iPads per day.

“Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We appreciate their patience, and are working hard to build enough iPads for everyone.”

This weekend international iPad sales kicked off in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. Come July and the Apple-developed device will be marketed in 9 more countries.

According to Apple, there are more than 200,000 apps available in the App Store. The iPad should be able to run most of them without a problem, even if they were originally designed for the iPhone or iPod Touch. There are some 5,000 apps though that have been especially designed for the iPad. These apps have been especially created to take advantage of the device’s large screen, high quality graphics and multi-touch user interface.
