The Blackhat movie starring Chris Hemsworth has recently been rolled out to theatres in the US. It tells the story of Nick Hathaway, an extremely talented hacker who…I’d better stop here, just in case you didn’t get the chance to see the movie. After all, I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you.

If you did get to see Blackhat and you want to find out what the security experts have to say, then I have some good news for you. Senior Security Researcher at ESET Stephen Cobb published his review of the movie and highlighted the 5 lessons we must learn from it. You can check out the review here; you can check out the aforementioned 5 lessons below.

Blackhat Movie – Cobb’s 5 Security Lessons
  • Disable Autorun – make sure to disable Autorun on Windows devices and always enforce media controls.
  • Be cautious with attachments – the file attached to the email you just received could be malware, so you should always scan it with antimalware. If you’re not sure why you received an attachment from someone, get in touch with that someone and find out what’s up with that attachment.
  • Understand radio risks – the bad guys will always go for the things that are most valuable to us. If we rely heavily on wireless communications, the bad guys are sure to target them.
  • Trust your own judgment – because digital information and digital feeds can be compromised, it is important to trust your own judgment. Your own five senses are meant to complement digital information; digital information should not rule everything.
  • Encourage employees to be suspicious – employees who are told it is okay to err on the side of skepticism will help defeat social engineering attacks.
Blackhat’s director is Michael Mann, known for big name movies like The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, or Public Enemies.

The star of the Blackhat movie is Chris Hemsworth, known for portraying Thor in The Avengers.
