Google Photos, the mobile and web app that Google introduced back in May, has gotten some serious traction. It’s been a mere 5 months since Google rolled out Photos, and its already being used by more than 100 million people. That’s… really impressive!

Twitter and Pinterest needed about 5 years to reach that number of monthly active users. Instagram reached the 100 million mark a bit faster than that, it only needed 2 and half years.

To mark this joyous occasion, the Google Photos team shared some interesting facts about how people use Google Photos. The 5 most interesting ones are listed below.

Most photographed things ever – People and Food

The number one thing Google Photos users photograph the most are people. Which makes sense. You want pics of your friends when you get together, you want pics of your family when you go home for a visit, and you want to snap a cool selfie when you’re all by yourself.

The second most photographed thing on Google Photos is food. Yes, food! Which reminds me about these 5 Android apps that will help you stay fit and in shape. They might come in handy if you overdo it with the food.

Most photographed events – Weddings and Concerts

The wheel in the above image presents the events that are photographed the most. The top 3 entries are weddings, concerts, and Christmas.

Can I just say that people who record videos at concerts are the worst! I can’t see the stage because you have to hold your huge phone up in the air and record? I know you’re never going to watch that video, so can’t you put your phone down and just enjoy the music? If you want something fun to watch, try these corky celebrity tech endorsements.

Most photographed animal – Dog

Just look at that little guy’s face. Is it any wonder that dogs are incredibly popular? So popular in fact, that Google Photos users take more photos of dogs than any other animal.

Most photographed places – Paris and New York

The number 1 most photographed place on Google Photos is Paris. And for good reason. It has iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Notre-Dame cathedral, it is a major art, fashion, and gastronomy center, it has those chic cafés and boutiques.

New York takes the number 2 spot on the list with Barcelona coming in 3rd.

15 million animations and collages

Google Photos features the option to create animations and collages. People have used this option to create more than 15 million animations and collages. Creating a GIF animation is as simple as selecting a few photos, tapping the + button, and then selecting Animation.

Instagram, the social network that teens prefer above all else, has an app that can be used to create collages. It’s called Layout from Instagram and it is available for Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.

As I mentioned at the start of this article, I picked the 5 most interesting facts the Google Photos team shared. See what other facts were shared here.
