Millions of people have purchased Fallout 4. Bethesda said that it shipped 12 million copies to retailers for the game’s launch and that requests for follow-up shipments have begun. This suggests that the initial copies, worth a staggering $750 million, have already been sold.

With so many people playing Fallout 4, it’s not surprising that several exploits have been found. The ones presented below show you how to get one of the best guns in the game, how to max out your SPECIAL abilities, and how to get an infinite amount of bottle caps.

Have Dogmeat Fetch the Cryolator Gun

The Cryolator, a two-handed gun that can instantly freeze an enemy, is one of the best guns in the game. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you could destroy an enemy with a single shot? Well, with the Cryolator, you can do just that. You’ll want this gun in your arsenal, I have no doubt about that.

You’ll come across the Cryolator at the start of the game, as you make your way out of Vault 111. When you get to the Overseer’s office, you’ll see a caged storage area. Open the security door and you’ll see the Cryolator case. Unfortunately, the case is locked and picking the lock requires the master lock picking skill, which unlocks at level 18. If you can afford to wait until then, good for you. If you can’t or don’t want to wait that long, then use Dogmeat, your faithful canine companion to fetch it for you.

Here's how

Once you meet Dogmeat at the Red Rocket Truck Stop, return to Vault 111 and go to the Cryolator case. Sitting close to the case, talk with Dogmeat and ask him to fetch items. Dogmeat will go to the locked case and get the Cryolator.

This video explains how to get Dogmeat to fetch the Cryolator.

You shouldn’t have any problems locating the Cryolator case. It’s in Vault 111, in the Overseer’s Office. Just in case, here’s a video that explains how to find it.

If you don’t have any ammo for the Cryolator, check Dogmeat’s inventory. When I tried this exploit, I was pretty stoked that I could get this awesome gun – and gutted when I saw that I had no ammo for it. That’s because the ammo was in Dogmeat’s inventory.

Use a Book to Max out Your SPECIAL Abilities

SPECIAL stands for Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck. These are the 7 primary abilities that make up Fallout 4’s leveling system. If you’re not familiar with them, check out this article. If you are familiar with them, check out the article nonetheless. It contains some fun videos that present the SPECIAL primary abilities.

At the start of the game, you’ll get twentysomething SPECIAL points to use as you see fit. Each time you level up, you’ll get 1 point that you can use to boost your SPECIAL abilities or to pick an ability perk. In time, you’ll be able to get all your primary abilities up to the max value of 10. Don’t want to wait and do things the proper way? Luckily for you, there’s a book exploit you can use to max out your SPECIAL abilities in a matter of minutes.

Once again, you will need your trusty canine companion, Dogmeat. Go to your home, into your child’s bedroom. Underneath a dresser you will find a book called You’re Special. Pick up the book and you’ll be asked to improve one of your core abilities: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck. The book works just 1 time – but with a bit of help from Dogmeat, you’ll be able to duplicate the book.

Here's how

Go outside and drop the You’re Special book. Once it’s on the ground, talk to Dogmeat and ask him to fetch items. Pick up the book as Dogmeat bends to pick it up. You’ll pick up the book and and Dogmeat will pick up the book as well.

Please note that the trick presented above should work with any item, including those hard to find Fusion Cores.

Here’s a tip: in Fallout 4, Intelligence affects the number of experience points you earn. If you want to level up fast, it pays to put points in Intelligence.

Get an Unlimited Amount of Bottle Caps

In the Fallout universe, bottle caps are used instead of money. You’ll find bottle caps as you explore the wasteland, you’ll get bottle caps when you complete quests, and you’ll get bottle caps when you sell stuff to local vendors. Taking all the items and the junk you don’t need and selling it to a vendor is a great way of making some extra cash and a great way of freeing up your inventory. Another great way of making some extra cash is to use an exploit and cheat vendors out of all their money.

Here's how

Go to a vendor and buy all their stock of a single ammo type; buy all .308 rounds for example. Take 1 round and sell it back to the vendor. Then take all the remaining rounds and sell them as well. Due to a glitch, 1 round will remain in your inventory. Sell that 1 round again and again, until the vendor is all out of money. Return 24 hours later, when the vendor has replenished his stock, and use this exploit to once again take all his money.

This video explains how to use the ammo glitch to cheat vendors out of all their bottle caps.

Closing words

It’s been a week since Bethesda released Fallout 4 to the public. Skyrim was a buggy mess at launch as well, so it comes as no surprise that the game is full of bugs and glitches. Bethesda will surely release patches and fix most of the bugs that plague the game.

The real question is this: are you going to use glitches and exploits to cheat the game?
