3 Reasons Why You Should Consider Getting a Curved Monitor (preferably a Samsung)

I don’t have a curved monitor. One, because they’re fairly expensive and I’m not done ruining my current monitor. And two, because I think they are a gimmick. If you feel the same way too, then we’re both wrong.

According to Samsung, one of the companies that has significantly contributed to the technological advances and innovations that have forever changed the TV viewing experience, curved displays are no gimmick. Here are 3 reasons why.

1. Curved displays will boost productivity

I’m sure it comes as no surprise when I tell you that people like to waste time at work. You might be doing it right now, reading this article instead of working on that important presentation. Don’t worry about it, procrastinating isn’t as bad as you think it is. It might even be good for you.

Samsung UK and the University of Leeds set out to find just how much time office employees waste. Turns out that the average worker is unproductive for 70 days of the year, spends a week doing work that should be done in 3.6 days, and gets interrupted every 22 minutes on average.

One way to address this situation is by choosing the right computer monitor. And choosing a curved display instead of a regular one has a big influence on productivity. Why? Because they reduce strain on the head, neck and eyes, because they offer a more immersive and private experience, because they help workers better focus on their tasks, and because their sleek design makes people feel as if they are working on a leading edge piece of office equipment.

“Curved displays not only mean that fewer head and neck movements are required to read information, but by following the natural curve of the human eye, they offer a more private, comfortable, and immersive experience to help maintain productivity. Office workers can organise their on-screen information better, making it easier to read, which researchers believe will lead to a greater level of worker satisfaction. So there’s no better time to change and be ahead of the curve,” says Graham Long, Vice President, Samsung Enterprise Business Team, in a report entitled "Ahead of the Curve, Exploring how a more visually immersive experience can improve productivity."

2. It’s like you're part of the action

When you’re watching a football match, it’s like you’re a referee on the pitch. And when you’re watching an action movie, it’s like you’re right there next to the hero. That’s what Samsung and MindLab International uncovered by performing a neuropsychological study.

Samsung’s curved SUHD TVs offer the finest ultra high definition (UHD) picture quality, depth and detail a UHD screen can offer. When MindLab examined the physiological effects of watching UHD TV versus full HD TV, it uncovered that viewers are more engaged and have a more immersive experience.

"From global sporting events, to highly anticipated TV series, to blockbuster films, people want to experience the huge variety of premium TV content available on bigger, brighter, crystal clear screens," said Michael Zoeller, Vice President, European Head of Visual Display. "Samsung is at the very forefront of evolving TV technology, offering the most breath-taking viewing experience possible, in the comfort of people’s homes. This research underlines the power of watching premium quality content on a technologically advanced television, like a Samsung SUHD TV.”

3. Demand for curved displays is growing

Samsung recently announced that it sold more than 1 million curved monitor products since September 2014, when it introduced its first curved LED monitor. This rise in popularity can be attributed to the fact that curved displays offer a more comfortable and immersive viewing experience and to the fact that curved displays are ideal for gamers and at-home entertainment users who want realistic, distraction-free picture quality.

"Since the launch of our first curved monitor in 2014, we’ve seen this technology evolve to become an industry standard that gaming and entertainment viewers expect,” said Seog-gi Kim, Senior Vice President, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “As curved monitors continue to grow in popularity, we welcome the challenge of further advancing our displays’ design and capabilities to drive new levels of viewer engagement and comfort. We are happy to have reached one million sales for our curved monitors so far, and we look forward to delivering new curved technology innovation in the coming years."
