Cupertino-based software developer Apple has recently announced that the month of April ended with a bang. On Friday, that would be the 30th of April, the last day of the month, Apple sold its one millionth iPad. Apple made the announcement about the millionth sold iPad yesterday.

The iPad was rolled out to awaiting customers on the 3rd of April. The 1 millionth sold iPad milestone was reached only 28 days later. According to Apple, all the people who bought an iPad so far downloaded more than 12 million apps from the App Store and 1.5 million ebooks from the iBookstore.

There are more than 200,000 apps in the App Store that can be run on the iPad (the iPad should run most of them without a problem). There are more than 5000 apps that have been especially developed to run on the iPad. This means the apps have been especially created to take advantage of the device’s large screen, high quality graphics and multi-touch user interface.

“One million iPads in 28 days—that’s less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Demand continues to exceed supply and we’re working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers.”

In related news, Apple recently reported its best non-holiday quarter results ever. For its fiscal Q2, which ended on the 27th of March, apple reported total revenues of $13.5 billion and net quarterly profits of $3.07 billion. During Q2 Apple sold 2.94 million Mac computers, 8.75 million iPhones, and 10.89 million iPods. Just to put things in perspective, revenues are up 49% and profits are up 90%. Long-time Apple rival Microsoft, for its Q3 which ended on the 31st of March, reported revenues of $14.50 billion – that’s a 6% increase compared to last year.
