2009’s We’re Linux contest was won by the “What Means to Be Free?” video, submitted by Amitay Tweeto, a 25-year old graphic designer from Israel. For his efforts, Tweeto won a trip to Japan, where he attended the Linux Foundation Japan Linux Symposium.

The Linux Foundation has announced that it will once again hold the competition. For the 2010 We’re Linux competition, the prizes are better than ever. The winner will get a laptop loaded with Linux and airfare and hotel at the LinuxCon conference in Boston. Before you start daydreaming about the laptop, or the conference, here are the main contest rules you need to know about.

- If you are under 18 years old, you cannot participate.
- Submitted video must be between 30 and 60 seconds in length.
- You cannot include illegal, copyrighted or offensive material in the video.
- You have until the 4th of April 2010 to submit your video(s).
- Community ranking and a panel of judges selected by the Linux Foundation will decide who wins the competition. The winner will be announced on April 14, the day the Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit kicks off.

“This year we want to up the game and uncover more talent. What if the Linux community had its own ad running during the Super Bowl? How would you convey the power of Linux in a 30 – 60 video spot that would air during the big game? In 30 - 60 seconds, showcase your take on "The Linux Super Bowl Ad" This should be why you love it and should inspire others to use it. The video can be an extensive production, a plain testimonial or as simple as a screen capture with a voice over. Be creative, be authentic and have fun,” said the Linux Foundation.
  • Linux Foundation registered users can submit their videos here.
  • Unregistered users need to register here first.
