Apple touted the fact that in the first 24 hours, more than 2 million pre-orders for the new iPhone 5 were recorded.
It seems that the new iPhone 5 is twice as popular as the previous model, the iPhone 4S. When the iPhone 4S became available for pre-order, more than 1 million pre-orders for the device were recorded in the first 24 hours. In the iPhone 5’s case, the number of pre-orders went up by 100%. Or to put it in other words, in the first 24 hours, more than 2 million pre-orders for the iPhone 5 were recorded. Apple made this information public on Monday, the 17th of September, two days before the iPhone goes on sale at 356 Apple retail stores across the US.
“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by iPhone 4S and the customer response to iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
Apple presented the new iPhone 5 at a special event held on the 12th of September. In case you’re not familiar with what the iPhone 5 has to offer, here’s the quick lowdown: thin and light all-new aluminum design, new 4-inch Retina display, new A6 chip, more memory, redesigned 8MP iSight Camera, new FaceTime HD front camera, a new Lightning connector, and ultrafast wireless technology. A closer look at the iPhone 5’s new features is available here.
