Several months ago, Google highlighted the fact that multi-screen video consumption is on the rise, putting an emphasis on the fact that viewers don’t care about labels and they’re perfectly okay watching TV programs on YouTube and casting YouTube to their TVs. See here.

Earlier this month, Google once again drew our attention to the fact that the way people watch TV is fundamentally changing. This time, Google highlighted the fact that watching YouTube on a TV screen is on the increase, with 2 out of 3 YouTube viewers saying that they watch YouTube on their TVs. And that’s not all. The time people spend watching YouTube on a TV has doubled year over year.


Watching YouTube on a TV isn’t that different from watching TV, Google explained. Watching YouTube on TV peeks around primetime and during the weekend, just like watching TV.

"Though streaming and casting to TVs may feel like second nature, 10 years ago smart TV were just coming to market," says Google in the infographic listed below. "Back then, YouTube was something people experienced almost invariably on a computer. But with technology accelerating, online video has come to the living room – and bedroom, den, playroom, and anywhere else TV screens can be found."
