1Password Available on the Mac App Store, AgileBits Announces

AgileBits, the privately held Canadian company dedicated to creating innovative applications for Apple’s Mac OS X operating system, has recently announced that 1Password, its premier password manager, is now available on Apple’s Mac App Store.

“After months of arduous work from our developers, and tons of tweets, forum requests, and sacrificial offerings from you fine folks and even customers-to-be, we are elated to announce 1Password for Mac is now in the Mac App Store,” announced 1Password via its blog.

You can purchase the properly good password manager right now for the price of $19.99 – which is 50% off the regular price. The 1Password version offered on the Mac App Store is 3.9. I mention the version that’s offered on the Mac Store to get to this: when version 4.0 will be rolled out, you will be able to upgrade to it for free if you purchase 1Password from the Mac App Store.

Getting back to the fact that 1Password v. 3.9 is offered right now on the Mac App Store, AgileBits explained that this version comes with the following new bits and pieces:
- New setup process that makes it easier for new users to get accustomed to 1Password.
- New system-wide menu bar item that provides access to Go & Fill, toggling AutoSubmit, and locking and opening the 1Password app.
- Full Screen mode works on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, the eight major release of the Apple-developed operating system.
- Enhanced security on Lion with PBKDF2 Calibration and compliance with Apple’s upcoming “sandboxing” rules.
- 1Password 3.9 is AgileBits’ first Lion-only release. If you’re on Snow Leopard, you can get 1Password 3.8 from AgileBits’ website.

So to sum it up, AgileBits’ properly good password manager 1Password 3.9 is now available in the Mac App Store. You can purchase it right now for 50% off – that’s $19.99 – and when version 4.0 will be released you will be able to upgrade for free. 1Password 3.9 is Lion-only and comes with several new features users have been asking for.
