Google recently started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat, the newest version of its mobile operating system. But due to Android’s infamous fragmentation problem, it may take a while until you get your hands on it.

While you wait, I suggest you go and take a look at some of the best new features this Android version has to offer. I picked the 10 features I think you’ll find most useful. Check them out below.

1. Run two apps side by side

Nougat features a split-screen mode that lets you run two apps side by side. You could watch a YouTube video while working on a list for example.

On top of that, Nougat has a quick switch feature: double tap the Overview button to switch between your two most recently used apps.

2. Tons of new emoji to try

When words aren’t enough, use an emoji. More than 1,500 emoji are available. 72 of them are new.

Getting back to using words, it’s worth mentioning that Nougat lets you use two or more languages at the same time.

3. Reply without having to open any app

When someone contacts you, Nougat will display a notification. Thanks to the new Direct Reply feature, you can reply from the notification, without having to open any app.

And speaking about notifications, Android 7.0 bundles notifications from the same app.

4. Rearrange Quick Settings tiles as you see fit

Some settings you access quite often, while other settings you rarely if ever access. Aware of this fact, Google made it possible to rearrange the Quick Settings tiles as you see fit.

The Quick Settings bar itself has been redesigned, allowing you to access your top Quick Settings tiles directly in the notification shade.

5. Block apps from wasting mobile data

Enable the Data Saver feature and Android 7.0 Nougat will prevent apps running in the background from accessing cell data.

6. Close all backgrounds apps at once

Easily close all the apps that are running in the background with a tap on Clear All.

7. No more waiting on OS updates to install

Google calls this feature seamless updates. It works like this: the OS update downloads and installs in the background, then prompts the user to reboot the device.

You don’t have to wait for the OS update to install and optimize your apps, you just have to reboot your device.

8. Set a different wallpaper on the lockscreen

While Samsung has offered the option to use different wallpapers for the home and lockscreen for a long, long time, the stock Android OS hasn’t. It took until Android 7.0 for Google to introduce this feature.

9. Crisp graphics for mobile games

Two words: Vulkan API.

10. Get even longer battery life

Android 6.0 Marshmallow introduced Doze, a feature that prolonged battery life by automatically putting a resting device into a sleep state. With Android 7.0 Nougat, Google made Doze even more powerful: it works even when your phone is jostling around in your pocket.
