10 New Video Games You Can Play this Month (January 2017)

The Steam winter sale is over, the winners of the first Steam Awards have been announced, and 2016 has come to a close. It’s 2017 now, a fresh year with fresh new games to offer.

That being said, here are the games we’re looking forward to in January 2017.

1. Milkmaid of the Milky Way
  • Game type – classic puzzle adventure game.
  • Release date – January 5 for PC and Mac on Steam.
  • Story – It's 1920's Norway, and you play as Ruth, a young woman who lives alone on a remote farm at the end of a faraway fjord. One day a giant, golden ship descends from the sky, forcing Ruth out on a journey that will change her life.

2. Rise & Shine
  • Game type – "think and gun" game that combines elements of arcade shooters, bullet hells, and puzzle platformers to create a new blend of strategy and viscera.
  • Release date – January 13 for PC on Steam and Xbox One.
  • Story – Rise lives on Gamearth, the world of the classic video game characters. He suddenly finds himself in the middle of a war against the Space Grunts from Nexgen planet, the bald, muscular soldiers with big guns that just decided to pull an invasion. Only with the help of the legendary gun, Shine, he’ll be able to stay alive and save his planet from the invaders.

3. Gravity Rush 2
  • Game type – action-adventure video game.
  • Release date – January 20, exclusively for PS4.
  • Price – $59.99 on the PlayStation Store. Free demo available.
  • Story – Still searching for clues behind the mystery of her origin, Kat must master three unique gravity attack styles as she takes on a new danger emerges to threaten the fabric of the universe itself.

4. Urban Empire
  • Game type – political citybuilding game.
  • Release date – January 20 for PC.
  • Price – $39.99 on Steam (discounted by 15% down to $33.99 until launch date).
  • Story – Take control of a mayoral dynasty and lead your city and people through 200 years of history. Establish infrastructures, plan city districts, debate political decisions at the town council, bribe or blackmail your opponents, empower the democratic rights of your people or ignore them and reign supremely by yourself – the decision is yours!

5. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
  • Game type – remastered collection of the Kingdom Hearts series
  • Release date – January 24 for PS4.
  • Price – $59.99.
  • Story – Full-HD remastered version of the portable game, brought to console for the first time. Series protagonists Sora and Riku take on the Mark of Mastery exam in preparation for coming threats. The signature action of the Kingdom Hearts series has evolved, allowing players to experience fast-paced battles and exploration at a blistering pace.

6. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • Game type – survival horror first person shooter video game.
  • Release date – January 24 for Pc, PS4 and Xbox One.
  • Price – starting at $59.99 for the Standard Edition. Free demo available on Steam, PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store.
  • Story – You wake up alone on the floor of an abandoned farmhouse. Daylight is quickly fading. You must find a way out.

7. Tales of Berseria
  • Game type – role-playing video game.
  • Release date – January 27 for PS4 and PC.
  • Story – Embark on a journey to follow the story of Velvet, a young woman whose once gentle nature has been replaced and overcome with a festering anger and hatred after a traumatic experience.

8. Yakuza 0
  • Game type – open world, action-adventure video game
  • Release date – January 24 for PS4.
  • Price – $59.99.
  • Story – Tokyo 1988. Getting rich is easy, the women are beautiful, and everyone wants in on the action. It's time to become Yakuza.

9. Memoranda
  • Game type – 2D point and click adventure game inspired by author Haruki Murakami’s surreal world short stories.
  • Release date – January 2017 for PC on Steam.
  • Story – A point and click adventure game with magic realism elements that tells the story of a young lady who gradually realizes she is forgetting her own name. Is she really losing her memory or is there something else that could explain the strange circumstances?

10. The Wardrobe
  • Game type – visually-rich 2D point and click adventure game
  • Release date – January 26 on Steam.
  • Story – Skinny dies after an allergic reaction to plums. When he wakes up, Skinny finds that he became a skeleton and has been sentenced to live in his best friend’s bedroom wardrobe forever.
