I’ve covered Bethesda’s most important E3 2017 announcements, I’ve presented EA’s latest E3 2017 game trailers, and now it’s time to put the spotlight on Sony and focus on the most important announcements that Sony made during its press event.

So without any further ado, here are 10 highlights from Sony’s Media Showcase at this year’s E3 gaming conference.

1. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Say goodbye to Nathan Drake and his brother Sam, say hello to Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross. Hello, ladies!

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End may have been the fourth and final installment in the series, but that doesn’t mean Sony is ready to retire the Uncharted brand. Coming this August is a standalone expansion called The Lost Legacy, starring a couple of female treasure hunters who venture deep into the Western Ghats mountains as they search for an ancient Indian artifact.

"For the first time in franchise history, fan-favorite Chloe Frazer will lead a new adventure featuring all of the hallmarks of the celebrated Uncharted franchise, including a new rich cinematic story, action-packed set pieces, exotic destinations, and intricate puzzles," says Sony.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is going to be released on August 22.

2. Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

Aloy’s adventures continue in the icy territories of the north. So, just like the new God of War?

Guerilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn came out of nowhere and turned out to be a properly good video game – perhaps one of the best PS4 games to date. If you’ve played it and you want more, then you will be glad to know that an expansion is coming later this year.

"Expanding the vibrant, post-apocalyptic world of Horizon Zero Dawn and continuing the journey of young machine hunter Aloy, The Frozen Wilds adds a brand new area with its own compelling storyline, adventures and side activities,” said Hermen Hulst, Managing Director with Guerrilla Games.

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds is going to be released in the fall of 2017.

3. God of War

Is Kratos fighting Norse gods because he killed all the Greek ones, or because Skyrim was such a huge success?

The good news, which we’ve known about since last year, is that Kratos is back – with a beard, a son, and now he's fighting Norse gods and monsters instead of Greek ones. The bad news is that the new God of War game isn’t going to be released this year. Say what you will about Bethesda, but all the games they presented at E3 2017 are going to be released in 2017.

"This startling reimagining of God of War deconstructs the core elements that defined the series—satisfying combat; breathtaking scale; and a powerful narrative—and fuses them anew," says Sony.

God of War is going to be released sometime in 2018.

4. Days Gone

Deacon St. John is a badass who feels safer in the wild, where are all the Freakers roam.

Sony introduced Days Gone, an open world action-adventure survival horror game developed by Bend Studios, last year. This year, Sony offered a closer look at the game by presenting a live on-stage demo where Deacon St. John encounters a horde of Freakers and has to fight for his life.

The action in Days Gone takes places in the high desert of the Pacific Northwest, two years after a devastating global pandemic. You play as Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who has to survive in a harsh wilderness where zombie-like Freakers roam.

Days Gone has yet to receive a release date.

5. Detroit: Become Human

Hey, that’s Jesse Williams from Grey’s Anatomy and The Cabin in the Woods.

Sony once again presented Detroit: Become Human, the neo-noir thriller video game that takes place in near-future Detroit and features several playable characters: Kara, Connor, and Markus. All these characters are androids because that’s the game’s premise: "discover what it means to be human from the perspective of an outsider – see the world of man though the eyes of a machine."

Kara is a newly created android, a deviant who gains consciousness and discovers that she can feel emotions. Connor is an advanced prototype assigned to help police forces investigate cases involving deviants. And Markus is an android who escaped his master and joined a small group of deviants, hiding underground in Detroit. You can see Markus in the video above, executing a covert operation during a cold Detroit night and fighting to free androids that are for sale in a store.

Detroit: Become Human doesn’t have a release date yet.

6. Shadow of the Colossus

This isn’t a remaster, this is a full remake for the PS4.

Shadow of the Colossus was first released on the PS2 back in 2005. Then it was remastered and released on the PS3 in 2011. Bluepoint Games and JAPAN Studio are now working on remaking the action-adventure game so that a new audience could enjoy this celebrated game on the PS4.

Shadow of the Colossus is going to be released sometime in 2018.

7. Skyrim VR

Skyrim is coming to the Nintedo Switch and PlayStation VR.

Fallout 4 for VR, Doom for VR, and Skyrim for VR – Bethesda really is putting a lot of faith on technology that isn’t widely adopted. During its own E3 2017 event, Bethesda confirmed that they’re bringing Skyrim to Nintendo’s Switch portable console. And during Sony’s E3 2017 event, Sony confirmed that Skyrim is coming to the PlayStation VR this fall.

"Skyrim VR reimagines the complete epic fantasy masterpiece with an unparalleled sense of scale, depth, and immersion. From battling ancient dragons to exploring rugged mountains and more, Skyrim VR brings to life a complete open world for you to experience any way you choose," says Sony.

Skyrim VR is going to be released in November 2017. Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch doesn’t have a release date yet.

8. Monster Hunter: World

Not to be confused with Monster of the Deep, a Final Fantasy XV fishing game for the PSVR. More about that in a bit.

Capcom’s action-RPG series that got its debut on the PS2 and has been stuck on mobile devices for years, is finally coming to PS4.

"This newest game in the Monster Hunter series will transport you to a new world built with stunning visuals and a living, breathing ecosystem of interactive flora and fauna. And for the first time in series history, Monster Hunter: World will have a simultaneous global launch window and cross-region online multiplayer," explained Yuri Araujo, Community Manager with Capcom.

Monster Hunter: World is going to be released early 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. A PC version will be released as well, sometime after the console version.

9. Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV

FF fans: "Do you have a new game?" Square Enix: "Go fish!"

While Bethesda is giving us the chance to fight dragons in VR, Square Enix is hoping that you'd rather go for something less exciting, mainly fishing. Grab your fishing rod and test yourself in a wide variety of fishing challenges by playing Monster of the Deep.

Monster of the Deep: Final Fantasy XV is going to be released this September.

10. Marvel’s Spider-Man

Yey, he snarked, they’re making another Spider-Man game!

Sony wrapped up its E3 2017 event by presenting more details about Marvel’s Spider-Man, the PS4-exclusive game that is currently in development at Insomniac. Let’s just hope that they get it right, because there hasn’t been a good Spider-Man game since 2004’s Spider-Man 2.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is going to be released sometime in 2018.

These aren’t all the games that Sony presented during its press event at E3 2017, these are just 10 picks. If you want to see everything that Sony unveiled at E3, then check out the full, hour-long Media Showcase that I’ve embedded below.
