PStill Publisher Description

PStill is a user friendly PostScript PDF convertor, PDF redistiler, and PDF page chainging application with many options and features. You can drag .eps and .ps files onto the application icon or the convertor window to immediately convert a file. You can combine many documents into one PDF document and you can redistill Mac OS X PDF files to save 40-70% in size.

New Options in Job Options and Preferences:
Font section:
Rotated fonts as outlines (this can fix a problem where rotated italized fonts are twice slanted)
JobOption key = "rotatedFontsAsPaths"
Extra font processing - Embedded fonts are gathered and cleaned up - this can fix problems with Adobe and Apple embedded fonts
However, it may take a little more time, but make the end document smaller

Color Management window
Under ICC Profiles, a new switch "Apply ICC Color Management to images only"
When checked the ICC profiles are applied only to images in the document
Job Options key: "ICCImageOnly"

New Suppress Elements option to suppress Annotations and Page Outlines
Set in the Conversion -> Suppress Elements panel
noAnnotations = YES; // JobOptions key
action: annotations and outlines are ignored in the PDF transcoding
purpose: this can clean up PDF, make it smaller and remove redlining for example
NOTE: This panel now updates your current settings correctly too!

Key/Values that can be set either as Job Options in hot folders or via the Command Line:

action: pdf is not searched for duplicate images
purpose: speeds up transcoding but can result in larger PDF if there are duplicate images

regenfonts = YES; // Job Options key
defaults write com.stone.PStill regenfonts YES
action: Subsetted fonts are regenerated - especially good for improperly written Adobe Apps PDF
purpose: Text that may have resulted in outlines can be rendered as text, can fix bad PDF

regenallfonts = YES; // Job Options key
defaults write com.stone.PStill regenallfonts YES
action: All included fonts are regenerated - especially good for improperly written Adobe Apps PDF
purpose: Text that may have resulted in outlines can be rendered as text, can fix bad PDF

combineDuplexImg = YES; // Job Options key
defaults write com.stone.PStill combineDuplexImg YES
action: Combines 'stacked' images and gfx elements. That are
elements that stack in color (usually Black, Spot color, Spot color, ...)
and would print ok when separated. This mode is helpful when converting
such input to Process colors (CMYK). Don't use with Spot colors!


Normalize to EPS and Normalize to PS shared keys:
keepflate = YES;
defaults write com.stone.PStill keepflate YES
action: causes rewritten images in PS or EPS to retain their original compression
purpose: produces smaller output in PS and EPS

Normalize to EPS special keys:
epscreator = "name of program that created EPS;
defaults write com.stone.PStill epscreator "Create"
action: Causes override of %%Creator: comment for EPS output
purpose: some prepress preflight setups will reject input not created by so-and-so an application

epsrgb = YES;
defaults write com.stone.PStill epsrgb "YES"
action: causes EPS to be in their native colorspace and not CMYK

Normalize to PS special keys:
numcopies = 5;
defaults write com.stone.PStill numcopies N
purpose: allows you to specialize how many copies are designated in the output PS
