Apple iMac DVD-ROM 1.0 Updater places new firmware on the DVD-ROM shipped in iMac DV and iMac DV Special Edition computers. This update improves the ability of iMac DV models to read certain CD-ROM discs and to determine if a disc is unreadable.

Certain CD-ROM discs are created in a way that makes them difficult to read. Some iMac DV and iMac DV Special Edition computers will try to read these discs for a very long time. During this time, the iMac will not respond to mouse or keyboard input. The iMac DVD-ROM Update improves the DVD-ROM drive's ability to read some of these CDs and to determine more quickly whether a disc can be read.
