Let’s assume for a moment that someone sends you an email that contains a link to a funny or interesting video on YouTube. In order to watch that video you would presumably open the link in a new tab, or even a new browser window. When you’re done watching the video you would have to return to your Gmail inbox, which could prove to be a bother. If only there was a way to watch that video directly in your Gmail window. Luckily enough there is just such a feature that you can turn on and preview YouTube videos without ever leaving Gmail.

Here is what you have to do:

Step 1. Go to Gmail (click here – a new tab will open), enter your login credentials and click Sign in.

Step 2. Look to the top right corner of the screen. Locate the Settings link and click it.

Step 3. In the Settings window click the Labs tab (the second to last tab to the right; just check the image at the bottom if you don’t see it).

Step 4. Locate YouTube previews in mail. Now click Enable.

Step 5. All you have to do now is click Save Changes and you’re done. In this regard there are two Save Changes tabs conveniently placed at the top of the Labs experiments list as well as at the bottom of the list.

Tips and warnings

If you want to use Gmail in a speedier manner, you could take advantage of the numerous keyboard shortcuts the Google developed email client has to offer (full list here). The thing is that before you can use them you must first enable this feature (we’ve got you covered with this detailed step-by-step guide).
Aren’t you bored with the default look of Gmail? There is something you can do: activate a theme.
