Mountain View-based search engine giant developed the Chrome web browser with speed in mind. Consequently test showed that Chrome’s V8 JavaScript is as fast as they come, leaving competing browsers behind. With speed in mind we’ve covered all the various keyboard shortcuts you can use in Google Chrome in this article. The focus of that article was keyboard shortcuts – but Chrome comes with some mouse tricks as well, which we’ll present here.
Here are the mouse shortcuts you can use in Google Chrome, grouped by category:
Window and Tab
Open link in new background tab – CTRL + click the link or click the link with the middle mouse button/mousewheel.
Open link in new foreground tab – SCTRL + SHIFT + click the link. Or SHIFT + click the link with the middle mouse button/mousewheel.
Open link in new window – SHIFT + click the link.
Open link in a tab – Drag link to a tab.
Open link in a new tab – Drag link to a blank are on the tab strip.
Open tab in new window – Drag tab out of the tab strip.
Open tab in existing window – Drag tab out of strip and into existing window.
Close tab – Click tab with middle mouse button/mousewheel.
Display browsing history in tab - Right-click, or click and hold either the Back or Forward arrow in the browser toolbar.
Open button destination in new background tab - Press Ctrl and click either the Back arrow, Forward arrow, or Go button in the toolbar. Alternatively you can click either button with the middle mouse button/mousewheel.
Maximize window – Double click blank area on tab strip
Address Bar
Move cursor to preceding key term in address bar – Click address bar + CTRL + Left arrow
Move cursor to next key term in address bar - Click address bar + CTRL + Right arrow
Delete key term that precedes cursor in address bar – Click address bar then CTRL + Backspace
Open entry in new background tab – Middle button/mousewheel click entry in address bar
Webpage
Activate auto-scrolling – Click middle mouse button/mousewheel.
Download link target – ALT + click the link.
Bookmark a link – Drag link to bookmarks bar.
Zoom in – CTRL + scroll up with the mousewheel
Zoom out – CTRL + scroll down with the mousewheel
Scroll page horizontally – SHIFT + scroll the mousewheel
