Use Keyboard Shortcuts in Google Talk

When it comes to instant messaging applications, Microsoft has Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! has Yahoo! Messenger, and the Mountain View-based search engine giant Google has the aptly named Google Talk. It is a piece of software that you can use free of charge on your Windows-powered PC to send instant messages to your friends, make internet calls (VoIP calls), share files, send notifications and so on. But the focus of this article is not what you can do with Google Talk, but how you can do it, and more precisely how you can do it easly and swiftly via a keyboard shortcut.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts you can use in Google Talk:


Change font size in conversation window - CTRL + Mouse wheel up/down .
Center text - CTRL + E
Right justify text - CTRL + R
Left justify text - CTRL + L or CTRL+J

To write with bold text - type *Insert Message Here*
To write with italic text - type _Insert Message Here_

Open Gmail to send email (email will be sent to the contact your are talking to) – F9

Start a call – F11
Stop current call – F12

Cycle through open windows – CTRL + Tab
Close open window - ESC
Close all Google Talk windows – Alt + ESC

Single spaced lines - CTRL + 1
Double spaced lines - CTRL + 2
Spaced lines - CTRL + 5 1.5
