Use InPrivate Browsing in Internet Explorer
Modern web browsers allow you to surf the web in a safe and speedy manner. You get to the web page you want in no time at all (that’s the speed part) and you are warned when you attempt to access malicious or malware spreading sites (that’s the safe part). Modern web browsers have another ace up their sleeves: they let you browse the web in privacy. This is to say that the browser will not store any of the following data: browser history, search history, download history, web form history, cookies, or temporary internet files.
There are at least two web browsers out the that allow you to surf the net in privacy. First there’s the Mozilla developed Firefox 3.5 browser – see here. Then there’s the Microsoft developed Internet Explorer 8 browser. Here’s how it all works with IE8:
Step 1. If you do not have IE8 installed on your computer, you need to download and install the software. A detailed tutorial on the topic is available here.
Step 2. Launch the web browser.
Step 3. At the top of the window locate and click Tools -> click InPrivate Browsing.
Step 4. A new window will pop up. You can use that window to do all your browsing safe in the knowledge that no browser history, search history, download history, web form history, cookies, or temporary internet files will be stored.
Step 5. When you are done, close the InPrivate window.
Tips and warnings
The InPrivate browsing mode in IE8, just like the Private Browsing Mode in Firefox 3.5, is affectionately called “p*rn mode”.
If you are currently using Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) then you should upgrade. IE6 is an outdated piece of software and even though Microsoft currently supports it, this will not last forever. As soon as Microsoft drops support for Windows XP it will also drop support for IE6.
You can use this keyboard shortcut to turn InPrivate Browsing on and off: Ctrl + Shift + P.
