Yahoo! has recently released the version 10 of its instant messaging application, Yahoo! Messenger (the stable version, not the Beta ). In a previous article we’ve shown you how to install Yahoo! Messenger 9. Now we will show you how to upgrade from Yahoo! Messenger 9 to Yahoo! Messenger 10.

Here is what you have to do to upgrade to Yahoo! Messenger 10:

Step 1. Launch Yahoo! Messenger 9 -> use your login credentials to sign into the IM (instant messaging) application.

Step 2. From the list of menus at the top, click Help -> now click Check for Updates.

Step 3. Your browser will launch and you will be informed that an update is available. Here’s the message I received:
You are currently running Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.0.2162. A newer version, Yahoo! Messenger 10.0.0.1102 is now available. Please update your version of Yahoo! Messenger to ensure that you have the latest features and security updates.

Step 4. Click Update Now.

Step 5. You will be directed to the Download Yahoo! Messenger 10 webpage -> click Download Now.

Step 6. Save the msgr10us.exe file.

Step 7. Double click the msgr10us.exe file you’ve just downloaded.

Step 8. A window called Installing Yahoo! Messenger will appear. There are two installation options at your disposal:
Typical Install: the Yahoo! Toolbar and the Yahoo! BrowserPlus add-on will be installed alongside Yahoo! Messenger
Custom Install: you choose if you want to create a desktop shortcut and a Quick Launch shortcut. You also get to choose if you want to install the Yahoo! Toolbar and the Yahoo! BrowserPlus add-on.

At this point you can also choose if you would like to make Yahoo! your browser’s homepage and if you would like to make Yahoo! your default search engine.

Select the installation option of your choosing and click Next.

Step 9. Check the box next to Yes, I accept the License Agreement terms and Privacy Policy above, along with the Yahoo! Terms of service. Then click Next.

Step 10. Click Install and wait for the installation process to complete.

Step 11. Once the installation process completes, click Finish and Yahoo! Messenger 10 will launch. Sign in and enjoy the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger.
