Specify which Sites Can Install Add-ons in Firefox

By default, the Mozilla-developed web browser will prevent sites from installing add-ons. Even when you visit the official Firefox add-ons site, and click Add to Firefox, a prompt will appear informing you that Firefox prevented this site (addons.mozilla.org) from asking you to install software on your computer. To proceed and install an add-on you have to click Allow. This could get tiresome after a while, but luckily enough there is something you can do about it.

You could put addons.mozilla.org in the Exceptions list. As a matter of fact, you can put any site in the exceptions list, but I’m going to use addons.mozilla.org as an example. By putting addons.mozilla.org in the exceptions list you are basically telling Firefox that you trust the site and that it should let the site install add-ons.

Here is what you have to do specify which sites can install add-ons in Firefox. Again, I will use addons.mozilla.org as an example.

Step 1. First of all you need to launch the Firefox browser. If you’re already reading this, chances are the Firefox browser is already up and running. But then again you could be reading this with another browser – if you are, close it and launch Firefox instead.

Step 2. From the list of menus at the top click Tools.

Step 3. From the dropdown menu that appears click Options.

Step 4. The Options window will appear. At the top you will notice a list of tabs. Click the one that says Security (has a padlock icon).

Step 5. In the Security tab, next to Warn me when sites try to install add-ons there’s an Exceptions button. Click it.

Step 6. The Allowed Sites window will appear. Under Address of web site type in addons.mozilla.org. Now click Allow.
You will notice that addons.mozilla.org is now displayed in the list of sites that Firefox allows to installs add-ons.

Step 7. Click Close -> in the Options window click OK and you’re done. The next time you want to install an add-on from addons.mozilla.org, Firefox will not block the installation.
