The development team behind Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone has recently announced the instant messaging client has been updated to version 1.3. Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone 1.3 comes with several enhancements:
- the option to change the display image from within the instant messaging app;
- better spam protection;
- numerous bug fixes;
- added support for French, Italian, German and Spanish;
- and last but not least, a enhanced file sharing feature.

“The file sharing feature also got a nice boost. Now you can IM both photo and videos that are stored on your iPhone. You can also receive and view photos, videos (.mov, .mp4), Microsoft Office documents (.doc, .ppt, .xls), .txt files, and PDF files from within the Yahoo! Messenger app. Note that you can only receive those additional types of files, not send. When sending and receiving, the maximum file size is 15MB, which is much larger than the limits of MMS,” explained Senior Product Manager with Yahoo! Messenger, Sarah Bacon.

If you would like to share photos/videos via Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone but don’t know how, follow the instructions presented below:

Step 1. Launch the Yahoo! Messenger app.

Step 2. Start a conversation with one of your contacts.

Step 3. In the conversation window, tap the emoticon icon -> the message options should appear.

Step 4. Tap the Media tab and select if you would like to take a new photo (shoot a new video) or if you would like to access an existing image (or video).

Step 5. Your contact will be notified that you’re sharing a file. Wait for the file transfer to complete. When tthie transfer is complete you will see a confirmation message.

Tips and warnings
  • You can view the file you’re sending by tapping the speech bubble.
  • You cannot send and you cannot receive files larger than 15MB.
