Web History is a feature provided by the Mountain View-based search engine giant to Google Account holders so that they can benefit from the following:
- The option to view (and manage) all the web searches the user performed and all the sites the user accessed after performing said search.
- Bring the user more relevant search results by taking into consideration the user’s previous searches and the sites the user has previously visited.
- The user can view trends in his web activity.

As useful as the Web History may be, there will be times when you’ll want to pause it. Can’t imagine a situation when you’ll want to pause Web History? Here is the scenario I had in mind. You start Google Chrome, launch a new Incognito Window and start looking for a gift for your significant other. But because you’ve signed into your Google Account, all the queries you enter in Google Search are stored by Web History. All your efforts might prove to be in vain if your significant other gets wise to what you are doing. So you need to pause Web History.

Here is what you have to do:

Step 1. If you’re already signed into your Google Account, just click here. If you’re not signed in, click the link anyway –> a new tab will open -> type in your login credentials and log into Web History.

Alternatively you can access the My Account page -> under My products click Web History -> type in your login credentials if asked to and click Sign in.

Step 2. On the left hand side of the window there’s an All History section -> a bit down there’s a link that says Pause so click it. The following prompt will appear: “Your web history has been paused.
This service will not collect any history until you choose to resume
.”
