The BitTorrent software application, by default, does not close and does not minimize to the Taskbar. When you press the minimize button, the application hides away in the System Tray. The same happens when you click the close button – the application does not really close, it just minimizes to the system tray. Both default behaviors can be modified. You can get the close button to actually close BitTorrent by checking out this tutorial. And you can get the minimize button to minimize BitTorrent to the Taskbar instead of the System Tray by following the steps presented below.

Step 1. Launch the BitTorrent software application.

Step 2. From the list of menus in the top left hand corner of the window, click Options.

Step 3. From the dropdown menu that appears, click Preferences.

Step 4. In the Preferences window click the UI Settings tab.

Step 5. In the System Tray section uncheck the box next to Minimize to tray and uncheck the box next to Always show tray icon.

Step 6. Click Apply, click OK and you’re done. The next time you press the minimize button, BitTorrent will minimize to the Task Bar, not the System Tray.

Tips and warnings

• Regarding step 5 – I’ve assumed that since you want to minimize BitTorrent to the Task Bar and not the System Tray, you’ll want to remove the BitTorrent icon from the System Tray as well. That’s why I told you to uncheck the box next to Always show tray icon. If you want to see a BitTorrent icon in the System Tray, just leave that box checked.
