Fort those of you that do not know what a cookie is, here’s a brief explanation: it is a small piece of text that the web browser stores on your computer so it can remember things like your browsing preferences, login data, profile information, the identifier of a sever-based session, and so on. Certain sites can track you when you visit them, so it is important that you manage your cookie settings properly.
The Google developed web browser, Google Chrome, lets you do just that. Follow the detailed, step-by-step instructions presented below and you’ll be able to manage your cookie settings:
Step 1. Launch the Google Chrome browser.
In this regard you can double click the Chrome desktop icon, click the Chrome icon from the Start menu, or whatever other means you use to launch the software application (I prefer to type in chrome.exe in Run).
Step 2. From the top right hand corner of the Chrome window click the wrench menu (it’s called the wrench menu because it looks like a wrench).
Step 3. A dropdown menu will appear -> click Options.
Step 4. The Google Chrome Options window will now appear. At the top you will see the following tabs: Basics, Personal Stuff and Under the Hood. Click the Under the Hood tab.
Step 5. In the Privacy section there’s a Cookie settings dropdown menu. Select one of the following options from that menu
Allow all cookies – 1st and 3rd party sites can set and receive cookies; this is the default setting in Google Chrome. When you revisit the site, 1st and 3rd party cookies are sent to those sites.
Restrict how third-party cookies can be used – 3rd party cookies are not set; 1st party cookies are set. When you revisit the site, 1st party cookies are sent to the site; 3rd party cookies are sent only if you’ve explicitly visited those third-party sites in the past.
Block all cookies – no 1st or 3rd party cookies will be set.
Step 6. After you’ve made your selection click Close (bottom right hand corner) and you’re done.
