Make the Windows 7 Taskbar Work Like Vista
The Windows 7 operating system, from Microsoft’s point of view as well as from the point of view of software testers all over the world, is far better than its predecessor, mainly Windows Vista. The catch is that if you got used to how things work in Vista you might want to keep this familiarity when you transition to Windows 7. Like the taskbar for example – you might want to make it work in the same manner it did in Windows Vista.
Here’s what you have to do to make the Windows 7 taskbar work like Vista:
Step 1. Find an open spot on the Taskbar -> right click -> in the menu that pops up click Properties.
Step 2. The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window should have popped up. In the Taskbar appearance section check the box next to Use small icons. In the Taskbar buttons dropdown menu select Combine when taskbar is full.
Step 3. Click Apply -> then click OK and you’re done.
Now when you use the taskbar you will notice it is a bit more familiar. This is because it behaves more like Windows Vista than Windows 7 – it is not identically the same way Vista worked, but it is as close as you can get to it.
Tips and warnings
It would be best to learn how the Windows 7 taskbar works and get accustomed to the new functionality. But if you want to get things done and get them done quickly, the fastest way to achieve this goal s by using something that you are familiar with. If that is the case, then by all means make the Windows 7 taskbar work in the same manner it did in Vista.
