The functionality that the HomeGroup provides for Windows 7 users is quite, well, useful. If you have more than one computer in your household for example, and they are all linked together over a network, then you can create a HomeGroup and share files, folders and even printers. User A can access the files that user B has shared, and the other way around. The number of computers that are part of a HomeGroup is not limited to just 2; all the networked computers can join a HomeGroup. They just need to run Windows 7 and they must provide the HomeGroup password.
But what if you no longer want to be part of the HomeGroup? You can simply leave it. It is a relatively straightforward process that should take but a minute to complete. Here is what you have to do:
Step 1. Minimize all open windows. Better yet, close everything.
Step 2. Click the Start button, the Windows orb from the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Alternatively you could just press the Windows key on your keyboard (the one with the Microsoft logo on it).
Step 3. Click Control Panel from the Start Menu.
Step 4. In the search box type in homegroup -> now click HomeGroup.
Step 5. Under Other homegroup actions there’s a link that says Leave the homegroup. Click it.
Step 6. The Leave the Homegroup window will appear -> click Leave the homegroup. Wait for the process to complete
Step 6. Now click Finish and you’re done.

Tips and warnings
- Now that you are no longer part of the HomeGroup, you cannot access or share HomeGroup files and printers.
- When you want to rejoin a HomeGroup, make sure the user that crated it hasn’t changed the password. If that user has indeed changed it, you must provide the new password.
