At home or at work, I like to have some sort of music playing in the background while I go about my normal routine. Out of all the various media players out there I like to use the Nullsoft develop Winamp player. The fact that Winamp has been around for ages and I am familiar with it has some bearing on my decision, but this is not to say that Winamp is not a properly good software application. Getting back to the music, I just minimize Winamp to the system tray (a how to guide on this topic is available here) and let the music play. If you would like to do the same, here are the steps you have to follow in order to install Winamp on your computer.

Step 1. You will need to get the setup executable. You can grab it straight from FindMySoft here or you can visit the official Winamp webpage and grab it from there.

Step 2. Assuming you clicked the FindMySoft link, you now need to click on the Download tab. Save the .exe file to your computer, preferably on the desktop.

Step 3. Double click the Winamp setup executable.

Step 4. The Winamp installer window should have popped up. Click Next -> click I Agree when presented with the License Agreement. It’s not like you have any choice in the matter. If you don’t agree, you cannot install the software.

Step 5. The default location where Winamp will be installed is C:Program FilesWinamp If you want to change it, now is the time to do it. Click Browse -> select a new location -> click OK when you’re done.

Step 6. It is now time to select which components will be installed and which will not. All components are selected by default; if you don’t want to install a particular component, unselect it now. Click Next

Step 7. Winamp will palce a shortcut in the Start menu, Quick Launch, and on the desktop. Uncheck the box next to these options if you don’t want a shortcut to be created there. For example uncheck the box next to Create Desktop icon if you do not want a Winamp desktop shortcut.

Step 8. Select which additional features you would like to install: Winamp Toolbar, set Winamp as your default search engine, get 50 free MP3s and 1 audiobook from eMusic. Please note that all these options are checked by default; uncheck them if you don’t want them. Chances are you will not want to set Winamp as your default search engine for example.

Step 9. Click Install

Step 10. When the installation process is complete, click Finish and Winamp will launch automatically.

Step 11. Delete the Winamp setup executable from your desktop (or any other location you saved it to).
