Install OpenOffice

There is one very good reason why you should install OpenOffice on your system: it provides great functionality at no cost whatsoever. It provides pretty much all the functionality you would expect to get from Microsoft’s Office productivity suite, with one noticeable absence – the price tag.

To my mind, these bits make OpenOffice an attractive piece of software
- It will work on Windows as well as Mac OS X.
- OpenOffice is a bit simpler to use than MS Office.
- It doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars.

Here is what you have to do to install OpenOffice on your computer:

Step 1. First of all you will need to download the setup executable. Click here (a new tab will open) -> in the new tab click Download OpenOffice.org -> save the .exe file onto your computer. I usually save it on my desktop so it is easier to remove it when the install process is complete.

Step 2. The download process may take a while, so wait for it to complete. When the setup executable has been downloaded to your computer, double click the .exe file on your desktop (that’s where is saved it).

Step 3. The Thank you for downloading OpenOffice window will appear. Just click Next.

Step 4. You must now select the folder where OpenOffice will be installed. If you are happy with the default location, just click Unpack. If you do not want to install it in the default location, click Browse -> select the new location -> click OK. Then click Unpack.

Step 5. The OpenOffice installation wizard window will appear. Just click Next.

Step 6. You are invited to provide the following customer information: User Name and Organization.
You are asked if you would like to install OpenOffice for Anyone who uses this computer or Only for me. Select the option you want. I would go for Anyone who uses this computer.

Step 7. Select the setup type:
Complete – All OpenOffice programs and features will be installed
Custom – You get to choose which programs and features will be installed.

Let’s choose Complete -> click Next.

Step 8. Do you want an OpenOffice desktop shortcut? If you do, leave the box next to Create a start link on desktop checked and click Install. If you do not, uncheck the box -> then click Install.

Step 9. Wait for the installation process to complete. It may take a while.

Step 10. Click Finish and you’re done installing OpenOffice on your system.
