In the past we’ve show you how to bookmark webpages in Firefox and how to export bookmarks in Firefox. Bookmarking a webpage means you will always be able to visit that webpage in the future. You don’t have to bother with something as commonplace as remembering the site’s URL address. Exporting bookmarks means you’ll be able to take your bookmarks and load them to another Firefox browser, installed on another computer. It also means that if you perform a fresh operating system installation, you’ll easily be able to load all your bookmarks on the new OS.

Here is what you have to do import bookmarks in Firefox:

Step 1. Launch the Firefox browser. I’m going to assume you’ve previously exported your bookmarks and that you have the exported bookmarks file on hand.

Step 2. From the list of menus in the top left hand corner of the window, click Bookmarks.

Step 3. In the dropdown menu that appears click Organize Bookmarks.

Step 4. The Library window will appear. Look to the top left hand corner of the window -> locate a tab that says Import and Backup -> click it.

Step 5. From the dropdown menu that appears click Import HTML.

Step 6. The Import Wizard window will appear. Check the box next to From an HTML file -> click Next.

Step 7. The Import Bookmarks File window will appear -> locate the HTML file containing your bookmarks, the one you’ve previously exported -> click Open.

Step 8. Close the Library window and you’re done.

Tips and warnings
  • You can replace step 2 and 3 in the tutorial presented above with this keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + B. There are other keyboard shortcuts you can use in Firefox. View a detailed, comprehensive list here.
  • Earlier this year the Mozilla Foundation announced the release of Weave Sync, a Firefox add-on that will encrypt and synchronize your Firefox experience across multiple browsers. In layman’s terms, it can sync the Firefox browser you have installed on your home system with the Firefox browser on your laptop, workstation, and mobile phone so that you can safely experience the same usability no matter where you are. You can synchronize the following: bookmarks, browsing history, saved passwords, tabs.
