When you encounter a webpage that you like, you will undoubtedly want to revisit that webpage in the future. In this regard you could remember the webpage’s URL address, or you could simply bookmark the webpage. Since you can’t possibly remember an incredibly long URL address, bookmarking is the way to go. You can find out how to easily bookmark a webpage in Firefox by reading this tutorial.

Now what if you need to reinstall your operating system? What if you have to move from one computer to another? Would you waste a lot of time recreating those bookmarks? Of course not – not when you can export all your bookmarks. The whole process is relatively simple. Just follow the detailed step-by-step instructions presented below.

Step 1
. Launch the Firefox browser.

Step 2. From the list of menus in the top left hand corner of the window, click Bookmarks.

Step 3. In the dropdown menu that appears click Organize Bookmarks.

Step 4. The Library window will appear. Look to the top left hand corner of the window -> locate a tab that says Import and Backup -> click it.

Step 5. From the dropdown menu that appears click Export HTML.

Step 6. The Export Bookmarks File window will appear -> select the location where you would like to save your bookmarks -> click Save.

Step 7. Close the Library window and you’re done.

Tips and warnings
  • Be careful where you keep your saved bookmarks. The process is not complete; first you export your bookmarks, then you take those bookmarks to another computer and import them to Firefox. Or you export the bookmarks, save them on a USB stick for example, reinstall your operating system and then import the bookmarks to Firefox.

  • You can replace step 2 and 3 in the tutorial presented above with this keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + B. There are other keyboard shortcuts you can use in Firefox. View a detailed, comprehensive list here.
