Enable Keyboard Shortcuts in Gmail
It is common knowledge that if you want to get things done and get them done quickly, you have to forget about the mouse and use the keyboard. Pretty much anything you can do with the mouse can be accomplished a lot faster by using a keyboard shortcut. This definitely holds true in the case of the Google developed email client, Gmail. A full and detailed list of Gmail keyboard shortcuts is available here; the trick is that to use these keyboard shortcuts you must first enable them.
Here is what you have to do to enable keyboard shortcuts in Gmail:
Step 1. Go to Gmail (click here – a new tab will open), enter your login credentials and click Sign in.
Step 2. Look to the top right corner of the screen. Locate the Settings link and click it.
Step 3. In the Settings window click the General tab (the first one to the left).
Step 4. In the Keyboard shortcuts section click Keyboard shortcuts on.
Step 5. Click Save Changes and you’re done. The Save Changes tab can be found at the bottom.
Tips and warnings
You can disable keyboard shortcuts in Gmail by following the same steps presented above, but when you get to steps 4 click Keyboard shortcuts off instead of Keyboard shortcuts on.
If you like to play with Gmail settings, there are some other things you should be made aware of. For example, you can change the default look of the email client by enabling a theme. Or you could enjoy enhanced functionality by enabling a Gmail Labs feature. These are experimental features that, even though useful, cannot be implemented in Gmail by default just yet. If they turn out to be popular, they will be; but in the meantime they need to be thoroughly tested (they may change, break or disappear explained Google).
