Every time you launch the BitTorrent torrent client, the software application will check to see if any updates have been released. If updates have indeed been released, BitTorrent will ask the user if he would like to get them. BitTorrent does this by default. But if you don’t like this default behavior, you could always change it.

With a few mouse clicks you can get BitTorrent to stop automatically checking for updates. Here is what you have to do:

Step 1. The first thing you need to do is launch the BitTorrent application.
In this regard you can double click the BitTorrent icon on your desktop, click the BitTorrent icon on the Start Menu, type in bittorrent.exe in Run, or any other method you use to launch the application.

Step 2. Take a look at the top left hand corner of the BitTorrent window. There you will see three menus: File, Options and Help. Click Options.

Step 3. A dropdown menu will appear. Click Preferences.

Step 4. The Preferences window will appear. From the left hand side, click General.

Step 5. Now in the Privacy section uncheck the box next to Check for updates automatically.

Step 6. Click Apply -> click OK and you’re done.
