Disable Automatic Add-on Update Verification in Firefox
Mozilla add-ons are great for the simple reason that they enhance the way the Firefox browser looks and performs. What’s also great is the fact that there are countless add-ons available for download out there. At the time of writing this the number of downloaded add-ons from the official Add-ons site was well over 1,5 billion and the number of add-ons in use was over 165 million.
The thing is that when you launch the Firefox browser it will search for any available updates for the add-ons you have installed. Some of you may not like this and would much rather update these add-ons manually, at a later time – or whenever it is convenient for you. If you fall into this category, here is what you have to do to disable the automatic add-on update verification:
Step 1. You need to fire up the Firefox browser (the pun was intentional).
Step 2. In the top left hand corner of the screen there’s a list of menus. Click the one that says Tools.
Step 3. A dropdown menu will appear. Click Options (the last menu at the bottom).
Step 4. In the Options window that pops up click the Advanced tab (the last one to the right, the one with the gear-like icon).
Step 5. Now click the Update tab.
Step 6. Under Automatically check for updates to: uncheck the box next to Installed Add-ons.
Step 7. Click OK and you’re done.
Tips and warnings
After you disable the automatic update verification, you must make sure to update your add-ons. A detailed tutorial on this topic is available here.
If you no longer want to use a specific add-on, you could disable it. If you do not want it on your system altogether, you can remove it. A detailed tutorial on how to disable/uninstall add-ons in Firefox is available here.
