In a previous article we’ve gone through all the steps you need to take to create an Yahoo! Mail account. The whole process was a relatively straightforward one. Now we’ll focus on the opposite: how to delete an Yahoo! Mail account. As you will see from the steps presented below, doing this is a straightforward process as well. As a matter of fact, in my eyes deleting an account is simpler than creating one.

Here is what you have to do to delete your Yahoo! Mail account:

Step 1. Do you know what your username and password is? If you do, proceed to step 2. If you do not, try to remember this information. Without the password you will not be able to delete the account.

Step 2. Go to the Account Termination page (click here – a new tab will open).

Step 3. You will be directed to a webpage where you will be asked to type in your username and password to sign in. Alternatively you may just be asked to provide your password (Yahoo! Mail comes with the option Keep me signed in for 2 weeks).

Step 4. Now you will be directed to a webpage where Yahoo! explains what you will lose if you delete your account. At the bottom, under We are sorry to see you go! Are you sure you want to terminate your Yahoo! Account? type in your password.

Step 5. Enter the CAPTCHA code.

Step 6. Click Terminate this Account.

Tips and warnings
  • If you terminate an account your will lose your mail address obviously. You will also lose your Yahoo! ID, Profile names; all the data and settings attached to your HotJobs, Yahoo! Mail Address Book, Yahoo! Small Business, Yahoo! Briefcase, My Yahoo! and so on.
  • The user account will de deactivated and deleted from Yahoo!’s user registration database in about 90 days,
  • If you ignore your Yahoo! Mail account for 4 months, it will be deactivated and removed by Yahoo!
  • Now that you no longer have a Yahoo! Mail account, how about creating one with Google’s email client? A detailed tutorial on how to create a Gmail account is available here.
