What do you do with files and folders that you no longer need? You delete them of course. What do you do with email you have no use of anymore? You do the same as in the previous case: you delete any email you don’t want taking up space in your Gmail inbox. The process is a fairly simple one as you will see from the steps detailed below.

Here is what you have to do to delete an email in Gmail

Step 1. Go to Gmail (click here – a new tab will open), enter your login credentials and click Sign in. If you do not have a Gmail account, why not create one now. A detailed tutorial on this topic is available here.

Step 2. By default you will be directed to your Inbox. Check the box next to the emails you want to delete.

Step 3. Click Delete and the emails will be sent to the Bin. They will no longer be displayed in your inbox. A notification message will appear: The conversation has been moved to the Bin. Learn More Undo If you click Undo the message will be un-erased (just in case you change your mind).

Step 4. Next you might want to delete spam emails as well. If you haven’t modified your Gmail in any way then the Spam folder is in hiding. You will have to click 6 more from the menu to the left. In the dropdown menu that appears click Spam.

Step 5. Select the spam messages you want to delete by checking the box next to them. Then click Delete forever.

Tips and warnings

You can delete all the messages in Inbox or Spam by clicking the All link -> then clicking Delete.
For added convenience you can drag and drop Spam onto Inbox. This way Spam will conveniently displayed under Inbox (not directly underneath) and you will have an easy way to access Spam and delete the messages in there.
