One of the most basic tasks you can perform in Windows is cut, copy and paste. This task refers to the fact that you can make a copy of a file/folder (copy it and then paste it in different location) or you can move a file/folder from one location to another (cut it and then paste it to the location of your choosing). It is a simple tasks that can be performed with the a few click of the mouse or a few keystrokes.

How to cut, copy and paste in Windows, using the mouse:

Step 1. Select the file, folder or text you want to copy or cut.

Step 2. Right click the selected file, folder or text.

Step 3. In the dropdown menu select Cut or Copy. Please note that Cut will remove the data from its original location and will transfer it to the new location. Copy will duplicate it.

Step 4. Navigate to a new location, right click and select Paste. The file, folder or text will be transferred to this location if you selected Cut. If you selected Paste, the data will be duplicated.

How to cut, copy and paste in Windows, using the keyboard:

Step 1. Select the file, folder or text you want to copy or cut.

Step 2. Press Ctrl + V to Copy the data or Ctrl + X to Cut it.

Step 3. Navigate to a new location, and press Ctrl + V to Paste the data. The file, folder or text will be transferred to this location if you selected Cut. If you selected Paste, the data will be duplicated.

Tips and warnings
You can cut, copy and paste pretty much any type of data you want: music, video, files, folders, text, URL addresses, etc.
When you want to copy a piece of text, make sure to highlight it first. If you want to copy/cut all the text on a web page or Office document, you can use the Ctrl + A keyboard shortcut to highlight the all the text.
When you need to cut/copy multiple files or folders, you can use the Ctrl + Left Click keyboard shortcut. Hold down Ctrl and left click the files/folders you need to cut/copy. If you want to cut/copy all the files/folders, use the Ctrl + A shortcut presented above.
