Do you have a list of webpages you often visit? You do not need to keep their URL address in mind and type it into the address bar each and every time you want to visit one of these sites. It would be a lot easier to bookmark these webpages – then you can just click the bookmark and Chrome will take you to that webpage.

There is one other reason you would like to know how to create bookmarks in Google Chrome. Let’s say that you surf the web and stumble upon something interesting – and the URL address is a long string of words and numbers. You couldn’t possibly memorize that URL address. Thanks to the bookmark feature, you don’t have to. Just bookmark that webpage and you will be able to revisit it any time you want to.

Here is how you can bookmark a webpage in Google Chrome:
  • The keyboard shortcuts method

Step 1. Find a webpage you would like to bookmark.

Step 2. On that webpage, press the following key combo: Ctrl + D.

Step 3. The Bookmark Added prompt will appear. Use it to select the bookmark’s name and to select where the bookmark will be stored.
  • The mouse click method

Step 1. Find a webpage you would like to bookmark.

Step 2. On that webpage, click the star icon next to the webpage’s URL.

Step 3. The Bookmark Added prompt will appear. Use it to select the bookmark’s name and to select where the bookmark will be stored.
  • If you don’t want to navigate to a webpage to bookmark it, you can perform the following to manually bookmark it:

Step 1. From the top right hand corner of the Chrome window, click the wrench menu.

Step 2. From the dropdown menu select Bookmark manager.

Step 3. Select one of the folders from the left -> click Organize (top left hand corner) -> then click Add page.

Step 4. Type in the name and the URL address of the webpage you would like to bookmark.

Step 5. Select the bookmark's appropriate location in the folder list -> then click OK.

Tips and warnings
  • You can also drag and drop a webpage’s URL to the bookmarks bar.
  • The bookmarks bar may not be displayed in Google Chrome. To display it, click the wrench menu -> then check the Always show bookmarks bar option. Alternatively you can toggle the bookmark’s bar visibility with a simple keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + B.
  • You can also import bookmarks to Google Chrome and you can import browser settings from the other browser(s) you have installed to Google Chrome.
